Digital Marketing is crucial for any business. From creating outstanding content to guerilla marketing, there are a lot of marketing tactics for you to pick from. So where should you get started? How should you approach your digital marketing strategy?
Luckily, there’s plenty of online resources to help give you ideas on how to approach your marketing. Below are the top 5 marketing TED talks we recommend to get you started.
In this Ted talk, Scott Galloway looks at the stats of each of these companies and how these companies now play such a large role in our lives.
What is this TED talk focused on? It’s focused on how neuroscience is entering marketing. Plain and simple, it’s about getting into your target audiences' brains.
According to Patrick Renvoise, the co-author of Neuromarketing: Understanding the Buy Button Inside Your Customer’s Brain, the reptilian/instinct side of our brains play a much larger role in decision-making compared to the rational and emotional side. He discusses the three parts of the brain:
the reptilian brain for instinct
the new brain for the rational side
the middle brain for the emotional side
Renvoise explains how to get into the user’s mind, and states that neuroscientists are convinced that the rational side of our brains play a much smaller role in decision-making compared to the emotional and instinct side.
I think I will be blaming the reptile side of my brain the next time my husband asks me “what did I order now from Amazon.”
Rory Sutherland explains that the key to successful advertising relies on a company’s ability to explain their value to consumers. A customer who believes in your value will be a more loyal customer, than somehow who users your services on a whim. Approaching your marketing strategy with this thought process will help you increase your retention and lifetime value.
Dan Cobley, the former Google Marketing Director, looks at the similarities between marketing and physics.
Cobley explains why big-brands can struggle to reposition themselves to consumers. He compares rebranding to Newton’s law: Acceleration = Force/Mass. Smaller brands are able to be more agile in the rebranding process, compared to big brands. This likely rings true to many people who have survived a rebranding or two at larger companies.
In this talk, Seth Godin talks about why bad or bizarre ideas are more successful in grabbing our attention than ordinary ones.
I won’t give any spoilers away, but this episode (and really all the episodes) is fascinating in how a badass marketing department made Barbie the iconic today. I think calling the marketing department from this episode my role models is an understatement.
