In the 2020s, it's no longer just enough to get online. You have to make use of SEO — or search engine optimization — to generate traffic to your website.

SEO requires good content, on page optimizations and so much more.

SEO is a unique form of digital marketing where you make content optimized for long engagement time and fill it with select keywords. This raises your site on search results, putting you closer to the top, where more people are likely to click on it.

However, the internet is full of a ton of SEO myths about what matters when creating your SEO marketing plans. So many, that you wind up with more questions instead of answers!

Let us walk you through some common SEO myths you need to know before you get started.

1. Quality Doesn't Matter

Many people see all the keyword research that goes into the world of SEO and think that keywords are the only game in town. Keywords are very important, but they're not all when it comes to SEO.

If your website has a high bounce rate, your SEO will suffer. People bounce from websites because the content isn't engaging enough. If you want your SEO to work, you have to have put out content of high quality.

Quality content can give you the extra boost you need to increase your SEO ranking. The longer people spend on your site, the better you're likely to do. Great content can convince people to stick around on your website and even share the content with their friends.

If you can't answer the question "what value is this bringing to a user?," it's likely bringing the user about as much value as my Medieval Studies minor brought me.

Which is not a lot.

2. You Don't Need to Update

Some people think that SEO is a one-off deal. Once you come up with a content strategy, you can simply milk it and gain profit.

Nothing could be further from the truth! SEO is influenced by cultural trends and shifts in technology. Just recently, vocal SEO became much more important than it ever was before.

A great SEO company should stay on top of cultural movements and technology advancements and learn how to predict the ways they can be useful for SEO. Check out our bespoke services, which always stay updated.

3. Links Don't Matter

It's easy to see where the belief that only on-page SEO matters. After all, the end goal of SEO is to get people onto your site, not somebody else's.

However, if you can get your links onto the relevant website (known as link building or gust posting), you can increase your chances of getting people onto your site. When people are on your site, they're more likely to stick around and increase your SEO, provided you have quality content.

Don't Fall For These SEO Myths

SEO myths spread for all sorts of reasons. A lot of people love to hear themselves talk, and think they're experts when they really aren't. I like to give cooking tips while watching Masterchef, but I, like many people giving SEO advice, have no business telling you why your souffle did not rise.

However, if you can avoid these SEO myths, you're far more likely to succeed.
